A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) can be called a Hybrid DVR if it supports connecting both Analog and I.P. cameras.
We use the term "True Hybrid" to describe a type of hybrid DVR that records images at the highest resolution on a per camera basis. In many cases, DVRs listed as "Hybrids" will display higher quality cameras at their max resolution, but will only record at a lower resolution. Some manufacturers do this so they do not need to deal with differences in resolution between Megapixel cameras and analog cameras.
Megapixel and I.P. cameras typically cost much more than Analog cameras, and Megapixel cameras tend to have a much higher resolution picture. If your DVR is limited to Analog levels, your money is wasted on the higher quality cameras.

Always find out the exact recording resolution listed for the software you're being sold. Make sure the limits on recorded resolution match your cameras. If your cameras put out a higher resolution than your maximum recorded resolution, it's going to waste.
